This came at a time when I was working in a high-pressure environment having dedicated almost 40 years of my life to serving as a firefighter, EMT, Paramedic and ER Physician Assistant. While I loved helping others, this did not come without its fair share of stress and the only way I could unwind and destress was by taking vacations. The change of pace and environment meant I could focus on relaxing and recharging, ready for when I went back on duty.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of traveling extensively throughout the U.S. and into Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. And in my travels, I was able to explore different sights and sounds and experience multiple cultures which broadened my horizons. I also discovered another unequaled importance of travel that made all the intensive planning and at times logistical nightmare worthwhile: traveling is capable of boosting one’s health not just physically but also mentally and emotionally. Being able to achieve internal body and mind harmony simply from visiting a new place and connecting with new people transformed my life in ways that I cannot even begin to define. But one thing stood out from the entire experience – while I was able to enjoy all these adventures and benefit from them, not everyone can do the same.
